Grandparents are Great Teachers Photo Contest
SMART529, West Virginia AARP and the West Virginia Association of Retired School Employees are sponsoring the first “Grandparents Are Great Teachers” Photo Contest. The contest encourages grandparents to submit a photograph featuring them teaching their grandchild a life-enriching skill (reading, cooking, drawing, fishing, etc.).
The contest is open to West Virginia grandparents and grandchildren. Grandchild must be between three and 12 years of age as of April 3, 2009. Entries must be submitted by 11:59 pm EST April 3, 2009. Five regional winners will be selected. The five regional winners receive a $500 SMART529 college savings account for the featured grandchild. The five regional winning entries will be posted on the web for online public voting beginning April 14 and ending April 24, 2009.
The regional winners will be invited to Charleston for a special event where the Grand Prize winner, based on the online voting, will be announced. The Grand Prize winner receives an additional $4,500 SMART529 college savings account for their grandchild and $500 cash for themselves. When I Grow Up" Essay Contest Kids like to dream about what they will be when they grow up. Parents dream about sending their children to college. In the fall of 2008, an essay contest was conducted for elementary school students that allowed them to tell SMART529 about their career goals.
The contest winners were announced at Charleston's Clay Center on December 3. Fourteen regional winners of the "When I Grow Up" contest each received a $500 SMART529 college savings account. College Prepaid Tuition and Savings Program Board of Trustees The Board of Trustees is the state government entity that offers West Virginia's college savings and prepaid tuition program. The nine-member board is established by state statute and is chaired by the State Treasurer. It conducts its business at quarterly meetings and its operations are administered through the State Treasurer's Office.
