Treasurer provides The Game of Life to middle schools
Independence Middle School in Sophia, Raleigh Co., was the scene of a tournament kicking off the distribution of 500 copies of The Game of Life™ to all middle school libraries and to all West Virginia public library branches statewide.

States pushing financial education forward
Treasurer Perdue is quoted n a USA Today article concerning the importance of teaching Personal Finance in our schools. The article quoted Perdue as saying that personal finance "is as important as history or economics" and tells that he successfully championed legislation requiring the state to develop a program of instruction on financial education for secondary schools. The article appeared on the front page of the Finance section on January 2, 2007.

Beware of hidden gift card fees
As gift cards become more and more popular, many people are discovering that some come with unexpected fees. Treasurer Perdue was interviewed by TV cable news channel CNBC about his desire to protect consumers from unfair gift card fees. He said he hopes to have Congress correct the problem.

WV Leads Way
By adding "personal finance" learning standards to the new Civics class, West Virginia became one of the first states in the nation to incorporate financial literacy objectives into a class required for high school graduation. This new requirement came into effect statewide in the fall of 2007.
