Teacher training program The State Treasurer’s Office conducts a variety of teacher training workshops, courses and seminars around the state to help you sharpen your financial literacy teaching skills. We will design custom in-service classes or seminars for groups of West Virginia teachers from your county or school. Our summer teacher training course and some of our custom classes can offer credit through WVU Continuing Education or Marshall University. Contact us about hosting or sponsoring a custom financial training seminar for your county or school.

NEFE High School Financial Planning Program® The Treasurer's Office has partnered with The National Endowment for Financial Education® (NEFE) to provide West Virginia's high schools with the NEFE High School Financial Planning Program. All newly revised for 2007, it is an excellent introduction to financial planning through course work that covers the fundamentals of money management. All course materials are offered free of charge to West Virginia high schools. The WVSTO provides technical assistance and training support for implementing this program. All lessons are linked to West Virginia Content Standards and Objectives.

West Virginia Bank At School Program (Grades K-5) The Bank At School program has been used by scores of West Virginia elementary schools to teach the basics of money, saving, budgeting and more. Many schools partner with a local bank to offer on-site banking activities for the students. Children have saved in total many thousands of dollars by banking at school. Teachers like the easy, well-planned lessons and activites. Dragons Decide (Grades K-2) These attractive, well-written wants versus needs lesson books are available from the State Treasurer's Office. They are made available to West Virginia elementary schools in partnership with the WV Housing Development Fund. Each Dragons Decide order includes a Teacher's Guide with WV CSOs. Order by email . ABCs of Credit Card Finance(Grades 9-12) The ABCs of Credit Card Finance is designed to teach high school students how to avoid the pitfalls of credit cards. The State Treasurer's Office provides state high schools with copies of the "ABCs" lesson book for distribution to all seniors. The Budget Game (Grades 6 and up) The Budget Game is designed to expose students to the decision process required to build a household budget. Students learn the give and take required to live within their means. The game also stresses saving. Student game sheets are available on the website or can be ordered in quantities from the WVSTO.
