Monarch Butterfly - State Insect

The MONARCH BUTTERFLY was selected as the official State Insect of West Virginia by Senate Concurrent Resolution on March 1, 1995. This large American butterfly has light brown wings with black veins and white-spotted black borders. It is noted for its long distance migrations and its brightly striped caterpillars that feed on the milkweed plant. The Monarch is also called the milkweed butterfly.
