PRIVACY AND SECURITY POLICY
Keeping information about you private and secure is very important to the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office. We maintain our web site (www.wvtreasury.com) as a public service to allow you on-line access, in addition to being able to contact us by mail or by phone. Our Privacy and Security Policy is to help you understand that the information we receive and what we do with it depends upon what you provide to us. As various matters affect this Policy, such as technological advances and changes in the law, we must reserve the right to alter, amend or modify this policy at any time and without prior notice
If you simply visit, browse, read pages or download information via our web site, we may automatically gather and store certain information. This information does not identify you. We will not obtain personally identifying information about you unless you provide such information to us
Information maintained by the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office is shared with our employees, our agents and our contractors. Information provided to us from persons registering for seminars through our web site is maintained in databases. Our policy is not to release, provide, rent, sell or trade personal information to anyone else, unless required by law. This means if we receive a subpoena or a Freedom of Information Act request, we will probably have to release the information requested.
All public records are subject to disclosure pursuant to the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, West Virginia Code §29B-1-1 et seq. ("FOIA"). FOIA only protects information of a personal nature if release would constitute an unreasonable invasion of privacy. Based upon decisions of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, names and addresses of persons are not personal information and are to be disclosed.
If you choose to send personal information electronically or request that we send you personal information electronically, we will do our very best to safeguard any information you provide to us, according to industry standards of security. For your protection, never put your credit card number or other sensitive information in unencrypted e-mail. If a web page has an address that begins “https://” rather than “http://” then the page uses encryption.
USE OF WEB SITE BY CHILDREN
More important than our concern for your privacy is our concern for the privacy of your children. We may offer topics of interest to children, but we will never attempt to collect personal information from children.
