"When I Grow Up" winner honored at Hodgesville

BUCKHANNON -- State Treasurer John Perdue honored Hodgesville Elementary student Robert Triplett Monday at the school, for winning $500 in an essay contest sponsored by the Treasurer’s office.

The “When I Grow Up. . .” contest, run by the Treasurer’s Office and The Hartford Financial Co., drew 1,800 entrants from across the state. Fifteen age group winners won prizes.

Triplett won in his region’s age category for writing about his desire to be a naturalist. The Galapagos Islands will be his future area of study.

“We’re thrilled to present this seed money for a SMART529 savings plan to Robert and his parents,” Perdue said. “As I’ve said many times, nothing opens the doors of opportunity like education.”

Triplett has already received his $500 to start a SMART529 college savings account. Also receiving $500 from The Hartford was Principal Ann Mickle. The school was recognized for having a prize winner.
