September is national college savings month!

Sep 01 2016

September is nationally known as ‘college savings month’.  As your children are settling into another school year, think about their future education. Most jobs require some form of higher education. How will your children pay for it?

SMART529 is a great tax-advantaged way to start saving now. Pay for a variety of higher education expenses including tuition, room, board, books and supplies.  Savings can be used at thousands of higher education institutions nationwide including colleges, universities, vocational, technical, barber, beauty, acupuncture, and culinary schools. You can even search for 529 eligible schools.

Studies show that college savings gives children the message that going to college is not just a possibility, it’s expected.  Be sure to talk with them about their future careers. Ask them what they want to be when they grow up and jot it down in their memory book.

Don’t forget to tell family and friends about your college savings.  They may wish to contribute or open an account of their own for your children. For more information on SMART529, go to www.SMART529.com.
